Around Rogers Park - New 400 Theater Shuts its Doors

It was a very long run – literally 111 years. But, effective August 18th, the New 400 Theater at 6747 North Sheridan Road closed its doors. Block Club Chicago has a nice tribute to the theater and the people who kept it going for so long. The company’s Facebook Page also posted a farewell.

It was the combination of high operating costs and not enough revenue from too few patrons that spelled the end for this longtime neighborhood landmark. The pandemic, the proliferation of modern multiplexes, and the rise of streaming services certainly didn’t help. Ultimately, the business just could not make enough money to survive. Rogers Park’s last movie house is now gone – one more neighborhood entertainment venue relegated to the history books.
