11th Annual NBOA Summer Soirée Enjoyed by All

Once again, the NBOA Summer Soirée lived up to its reputation as one of the real estate industry’s most anticipated events. The weather was picture-perfect, attendance was high, the food and comradery were top-notch and the fundraising was truly impressive.

The event took place on Thursday, August 3rd. Like the previous year, this year’s Soirée event was held on the grounds of the Loyola University Chicago campus on the large lawn area between the Halas Recreation Center and the Cudahy Science Building.

Funding the NBOA has never been more important that it is right now.

It’s always a little bit nerve-wracking to hold a large event like this out in the open. As we all know, Chicago weather can be fickle and you never know what you’re going to get until almost the last minute. The organizers did pitch large tents in case of inclement conditions. Fortunately, they were not needed. The skies were clear, a cool breeze wafted off the Lake and you really could not have asked for a nicer evening.

In addition to raising significant funds for the Neighborhood Building Owners Alliance (NBOA), the raffle raised $1,800 for Black Men United, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting families who were dislocated after the severe flooding on the city’s West Side in July. The NBOA topped off this sum by another $700, donating $2,500 to this worthy organization.

Speaking of the NBOA, let’s not forget that this is our very own advocacy group dedicated to educating public officials about the needs and concerns of property owners in Chicago and the region. Funding the NBOA has never been more important that it is right now with legislation harmful to our industry being proposed at every level of local and state government.

The money raised at this event will directly fund the advocacy and lobbying efforts of the NBOA in Chicago and in Springfield. The event was well attended by elected officials, including Alderman Tim Knudson (43rd Ward) and Cook County Commissioners Bridget Degnen (12th District) and Dennis Deere (2nd District), just to name a few.

This list of sponsors can only be described as off-the-charts, far exceeding the number of sponsor in any of the past Soirée events.

A lot of people worked hard to make the event a success. Our thanks to NBOA President, Mike Glasser and the amazing Sheryl Rosenberg who did much of the behind the scenes heavy lifting. Special thanks goes to Mike Slater.

We would be remise if we did not thank the organizations that stepped up to the plate with their generous contributions. The event sponsors are:

This list of sponsors can only be described as off-the-charts, far exceeding the number of sponsor in any of the past Soirée events. This fundraising success speaks to the high regard our industry has for the NBOA and the importance we collectively place in the work they do. But it is also a testament to the fundraising skills and wide web of relationships that Mike Glasser possesses. Mike oversaw the fundraising effort and personally reached out to many of the event sponsors.

We have to give special thanks to Loyola University Chicago for allowing us the use of their beautiful Lakeside campus.

Finally, we have to give special thanks to Loyola University Chicago for allowing us the use of their beautiful Lakeside campus. Loyola has been an incredible partner to the Rogers Park Builders Group and to the NBOA, not to mention a valued community member in both Rogers Park and Edgewater – the neighborhoods Loyola calls home.

We thank everyone who participated and hope you will all come back again next year.
