Mike acknowledges the city’s affordable housing challenges and the general importance of creating more affordable housing opportunities for the individuals and families that need them. Mike states, “CAA has been committed to working with policymakers at all levels of government to explore and implement policies and programs to address affordable housing solutions.”
The proposed expansion of the “granny flat” or accessory dwelling unit (ADU) program from a few select neighborhoods to the entire city is one important way to bring more affordable housing to the market without resorting to expensive public programs to get it built. Mike makes it clear that CAA wants to work with the new Mayor on creating a robust and effective ADU program for Chicago. Mike states, “While we may not agree on all the proposals put forth, the goals outlined in Mayor Johnson's Chicago for the People plan provide opportunities for business and industry to work with housing advocates in bringing more affordable housing to Chicago.”
