Around Rogers Park - Candyland House Changes Owners but Keeps its One-of-a-Kind Color Scheme

Every neighborhood has its quirky landmarks and novelties – Rogers Park more than most. Longtime residents and visitors alike would have a hard time missing the amazing, multi-colored Victorian house at 1525 W. Pratt – popularly known as the “Candyland House.”

In a fun feature article in Block Club Chicago, writer Joe Ward profiles the new owners of the house – Joe Bergantino and Ricky Gonzalez. The couple bought the house last winter and are busy carrying on the proud tradition of the previous owners who first dreamed up the crazy color scheme that put the house on the map of unusual and original Rogers Park landmarks.

It’s a great read and a nice story about new creatives picking up where an older generation left off. It is also a quintessentially Rogers Park story – a little eccentric and a little counter-cultural with a lot of creativity and artistic inspiration added for good measure. Just what we would expect from our unique and funky neighborhood. Congratulations to the new owners, and good for all of us that the fun will continue for a new generation.
