Greg Jones, New RPBG Director

For anyone who has been a regular participant in the Rogers Park Builders Group monthly meetings (you might have to strain your brain to recall those much-missed, actual gatherings of our members), then you may very well have chatted with Greg Jones who recently became a Director. In a group with a lot of extroverts, Greg stands out as being especially outgoing, friendly and always up for a good conversation with other members.

Greg has been coming to RPBG meetings for several years. Like so many of our members, his introduction to the group was through our even more outgoing President, Mike Glasser. Mike invited Greg to come to the January 2018 Trends Workshop. Greg enjoyed the experience and decided to join.

Greg recalls being impressed with the broad mix of property owners, managers and developers that he encountered at our meetings. He was especially impressed with the genuine concern our members have for the Rogers Park community. Greg says, “not only are they members but they also get involved and care for their community. This is something I want to be a part of.”

Over the past few years, Greg has become more and more involved with RPBG. So, when Mike asked him if he’d like to become a Director, Greg was happy to say yes. Greg views his role as a Director primarily as a resource to other members. A good example of this is Greg’s participation as a presenter at the Best Practices Workshop in both 2018 and 2019 where he explained the potential risks of real estate ownership, and the insurance products available to help mitigate these risks if they occur. Greg brings over eight years of experience as an insurance broker and real estate advisor and has particular expertise in helping his clients reduce or transfer risk with appropriate insurance products.

Greg got into the real estate business naturally. Both his father and brother own construction companies active in the Southeastern United States. Greg grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. Greg did most of his undergraduate studies online through Liberty University while continuing to work full time. Greg moved to Chicago in 2009. Two years later, a friend introduced Greg to an insurance agency owner which led to Greg’s first insurance-related job in January 2012.

Greg is a firm believer in continuing education and is constantly keeping his skills honed through industry training programs and additional work on professional designations. Greg obtained his CLCS (Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist) designation through independent study. Greg’s hard work and focus has paid off. Greg is a trusted source of insurance advice to his many real estate clients.

But, as anyone who has met Greg can probably tell, he is not an all-work-and-no-play kind of guy. Greg loves spending time with his wife and two kids – a daughter who is about to turn six, and a son who is four. By the time anyone reads this article, Greg’s family will have grown to five. The Jones’s are expecting a new baby girl on May 1st!

Greg is a self-described “huge fan” of baseball and loves to watch the Cubs play. But, unlike Marty Max, Greg’s love of the game does not start and end at Wrigley Field. He has traveled widely to watch games in other ballparks all around the country. Greg says his love of baseball started early when he would watch games with his grand-dad (his word – spoken as a true Southerner). When not spending time with family or at baseball games, Greg is not opposed to an occasional game of poker with some good whiskey, a few cigars and the company of good friends.

If you have not met Greg, you’re missing out. He won’t be hard to find, at least once we are able to leave social distancing behind and reconvene at Loyola. At six feet four inches tall, Greg stands out in the crowd and has a personality to match. Say hello. You’ll be glad you did.
